The European Network of Cistercian Heritage (ENCH) is a non-profit, collaborative structure dedicated to the safeguarding and promotion of the Cistercian legacy across Europe. Currently coordinated by the Monastery of Alcobaça (Portugal), the Network unites institutions, archives, and private entities in a common cause: to foster technical and scientific dialogue.
The Network comprises over 20 diverse members from numerous European countries, including significant UNESCO World Heritage Sites, historic abbeys, and local authorities. The ENCH operates as a voluntary and open structure, based on the Declaration of Principles which all adhering entities commit to respect. Financial costs are covered by the members themselves, and larger projects are sustained through dedicated European or other funding calls. The ultimate goal is the legal constitution of a non-profit association.
